Add a Cookie Notice for GDPR and CCPA

A real estate site collects visitor data through search, favourites and analytics. This is the plugin we recommend for the consent banner, and how to set it up on MyHome.

In short
  • We recommend the free Cookie Notice plugin.
  • Install, set the message, link your privacy policy.
  • It styles to match your site colors.
  • IDX Broker pages are a separate case, see below.

Why your site needs one

A property site rarely runs on cookies alone from the theme. Analytics, ad pixels, saved searches and lead tracking all leave something in the visitor's browser, and EU GDPR and California CCPA rules expect you to say so and offer a choice.

MyHome IDX does not ship a consent banner on purpose. Consent rules differ by country and by what you have installed, so a dedicated plugin you control is the safer choice.

Set up the banner

The plugin we suggest is Cookie Notice, a free option used on over a million sites and maintained for years, which matters for anything legal.

  1. 1 Install the plugin

Go to Plugins then Add New, search for Cookie Notice, install and activate.

  2. 2 Write the message

Open the plugin settings and set the banner text and button labels in your own words. Keep it plain, visitors read one line at most.

  3. 3 Link your privacy policy

Point the More information link at your privacy policy page. WordPress can generate a starting page under Settings then Privacy if you do not have one yet.

  4. 4 Decide on refusal

For EU visitors, turn on the refuse option so consent is a real choice, and enable script blocking if you run analytics or ad pixels.

  5. 5 Match your colors

Set the bar and text colors to your brand, pick the position and save. Check it on a phone as well as on desktop.

What about the IDX pages

Your property search results, listing details and agent pages are served by your IDX Broker account and take your header and footer through the wrapper. A WordPress plugin runs on your WordPress pages, so what appears there is not guaranteed to behave the same on the IDX side.

If your market requires the banner across every page including the IDX ones, tell us and we will place it for you so both sides match.

This is not legal advice
We can put the banner in place and make it look right. What your notice needs to say, and which regulations apply to you, is worth confirming with someone qualified in your market.

Want the banner handled for you?

We can install it, style it to your brand and cover the IDX pages in the same pass, so consent looks consistent everywhere.
